To make the tie rods, heavy steel wires are pressed slightly to flatten them out and to give the rod a wavy pattern. This prevents the tie rods from turning in the concrete wall when they are broken off. These ties are cut in various lengths, anywhere from 4 inches to more than 18 feet, as needed by contractors. They are then stored in appropriate boxes.
